ROYAL BOTANIC GARDEN

Advocating biodiversity conservation, The Royal Botanic Garden of Jordan is a non-profit organization, founded in 2005, covering 180 dunums of land, practicing what they preach. It is located in Tell Ar-Rumman, just north of Amman, overlooking King Talal Dam.

The Garden is intended to function as a giant demonstration site, showcasing sustainable water management, energy strategies, grazing, and environmentally compatible income generation. Every strategy used at the RBG should be replicable by the average Jordanian.

Over four months of development and modifications based on the feedback of the website admins and web users. A very professional and rich website has been launched. A library of the plants and habitats, Online herbarium and high definition scans of the specimens are available for scientists and researchers to navigate.

HRH Princess Basma bint Ali (founder of the RBG) has a strong connection with the environment. Years ago, she decided to create the Royal Botanic Garden of Jordan to preserve native plants and ecosystems, and promote biodiversity research and environmental learning.

Princess Basma has received international recognition for her efforts to bring environmental issues to the forefront in Jordan, including a place on the U.N. Environment Programme's Global 500 Roll of Honor. In 1998, she became the first Arab woman to receive the title of Hero for the Planet from Time Magazine
